The solemn conferral ceremony organised in the Aula Magna of "Dimitrie Cantemir" Christian University enjoyed the participation of members of the Royal Family, representatives of the Royal Household, cultural personalities, Romanian political personalities and representatives of embassies of Germany, Austria, France, Serbia, and Bulgaria in Romania. In his speech, His Majesty emphasized the following: "Dimitrie Cantemir University may already proudly present more than 15,000 graduates – lawyers, prosecutors, researchers, managers, historians or other professionals. For a young university, this is a real accomplishment. And for our country, the foundation and development of "Dimitrie Cantemir" Christian University is one of the most telling evidence of the importance of private initiative.
The institution hosting us today is probably the clearest example of Romania’s connections with the entire European continent, with the whole family of European nations. Dimitrie Cantemir, spiritual patron of the university, ruler of Moldova, member of the Royal Academy of Berlin, one of the great men of letters of his time, was also among the first scholars who wrote about Europe as a model of civilisation.
I have followed closely and I am well aware of the endeavours of Dimitrie Cantemir University to shape its future. These are serious and profound efforts. They have surpassed many prejudices and often overcame obstacles and now, in 2006, you are about to bring a serious change in the perception on private education. If during the past decade students and their parents preferred public schools, and regarded private education as a second option, things have started to change now. Private universities in Europe, in America and across the world are the first option for best quality education, and ''the example set by Dimitrie Cantemir Christian University places Romania on the same path''.
The Rector of Dimitrie Cantemir University, together with the faculty, found a good solution to reward academic work and restore the dignity of those who serve the higher education here. This success will be reflected on the local community and sets an example for the entire country. |
